In 2017, we really did our best to SHAKE up the KLKP format! And the reviews are in and the changes were a hit!
So this year, we are going to maintain the 2017 format, with a few tweaks based upon feedback.
We continue to consult with many of you, our 2017 teachers, our esteemed colleagues, and we believe that this became a solid format. We look forward to trying it out again this year, and at least we’ll have some ideas about what we’re doing!
Here’s what we implemented last year!
- We have tried to create space for breathing! We have condensed our instruction, and opened up time each day for practising, sleeping, jamming, visiting, swimming, canoeing, touring, eating, playing games, doing handwork and art and just BEING!
- More dance!
- Rotating instructors so each class sees more than one teacher per day!
- opportunities to practise and have guided practise
- An evening FREE to visit and enjoy each others’ company
- An earlier departure time on Friday for those traveling a long distance.
We’ve taken some things OUT of the equation!
We are also making a BOLD move, and are SHRINKING the campus! We are going to only open 90 spots for KLKP 2018 each week. Maybe this seems like a lot, but when we look at the past few years, we have crept up to 125 musicians, with an additional bunch of “campus passes”. That’s a lot of people.
So, by shrinking our campus, we hope to capitalize on our ideas about creating space to breathe, to know each other’s names, and to develop those personal connections which has become the hallmark of KLKP.
We have added a few really cool things!
- Living History project Week ONE: in Celebration of Canada’s 150 birthday, we are going to have a taste of living history present at KLKP ! Barb Rieder and family participate in Manitoba’s living History society, and will be bringing part of their 1812 Metis camp to KLKP. Additionally, Barb has been conscripted by KLKP to officially offer workshops on moccasin making/ beading/ leather crafts. This will be open to those with Campus passes as well as participants. (there is a material fee involved… see your registration form!) but there will be plenty of time to sit and do handwork and drink tea and visit if you so desire!
- Zentangling: Week ONE and TWO:this peaceful and error-free art style will be available for participants. I have some friends I have not yet consulted with who are going to lead this style of meditative art!
- Art: week ONE: Blaine Klippenstein ( you’ve heard me talking about the guy who started the whole ball of wax for the Frontier School Division Fiddle program…. yup.. that Blaine!) who also happens to be a lovely artist and teacher. He’ll be at KLKP week ONE offering drop in art lessons as well as workshops in the afternoons. Again, this is for those of you who registered as either campus passes or instruction packages.
- Yoga: Week ONE and TWO: morning stretches – possible afternoon sessions as well if there is interest! Drop in by sign up sheet AT CAMP! This style of yoga is gentle and stretchy… with a focus on breath work and moving energies through your body. Bring a yoga mat or just use a pool towel! We are in the process of organizing our yoga instruction for 2018- and we shall keep you posted!
And for 2018, we have a few other additions which we are working on!
FIRST: as suggested last year, we are including a preschool music hour! This will take place at LESSON 3 daily.
Children under the age of 6 do not pay a campus fee, but we are including an option to allow these children to register for 1 hour of general music instruction/ inclusion daily! Parents must attend with their child. NOTE: older kids who are registered as campus passes can attend as well, but there will be NO additional fee. Please note on their form if these children would like to participate .
